Rock Riddles: Who Am I?

First graders have been examining earth materials,
including soil, sand, clay
(powder), and rocks.
Reading nonfiction books and viewing videos, girls
learned about the sand cycle and how people use
earth materials in building homes.

Meet the Expert!
Tom Neel, Geologist Extraordinaire
Tom shared a presentation with the first graders
on 5/26/20. We added the new
information
about
his field to the original brainstormed chart
by the girls (5/22). Tom returned the next day on
5/27 for interview questions posted by students.

Coral Reefs: An Underwater Wonderland

Coral Reef Open House  • 5/8/20

CORAL REEFS
First graders took on the role of marine biologists as they learned about the underwater world of coral reefs. Using information from videos and nonfiction books, girls applied writing workshop skills to write a Coral Reef Report - Chapter 1: Coral Reef (What? Where?), Chapter 2: Fish, and Chapter 3: Marine Animals.
