Habitat & Spark Studio Adventure!
Weeks 1 & 2
First grade girls learned about habitats from our nonfiction reader, Plants in Their Habitat. After listening to each chapter on the pond, rain forest, desert, and Arctic, girls sketched what the habitat looked like and listed a few animals that live there.
Girls applied writing workshop skills from information writing to complete a research report about one habitat and an animal: Chapter 1 - Habitat and Animals, Chapter 2 - Food, and Chapter 3 - Interesting Facts.
Week 2
With the completion of reports, girls were off and running with supplies to construct their habitats.

SPARK STUDIO ADVENTURE!
Ms. Inchausti led the first graders on a fun art challenge inspired by the Getty Museum's "recreate your favorite piece of art challenge". After viewing examples of art paired with a creative interpretation of the art using items found in homes, girls set off to find materials for creating a spider inspired by the giant Maman spider sculpture at the Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain. See fun facts below!
