PLANE SHAPES

Girls are exploring plane (1-dimensional) and solid shapes (3-dimensional). We started with reviewing the names of 4 basic shapes that can easily be identified in both of our explorations: square, triangle, rectangle, and circle. They are using prior knowledge from plane shape lessons to help identify shapes that form the 3-dimensional solid. Girls looked for plane shapes in Campbell Yard and sketched examples.

SOLID SHAPES
First graders sorted a variety of items, by reporting on plane shapes they could see on a solid object. Girls identified attributes that helped them sort the shapes. For example: How many sides? How many corners?

SPARK STUDIO

Girls constructed 3-dimensional shapes in Spark Studio with Ms. Inchausti. Selecting from precut cardboard shapes, girls were challenged to construct their own solid shapes using squares, rectangles, and triangles.
